Carruthers to stay behind bars after plea
David Carruthers, the former chief executive officer of Bet On Sports will stay behind bars after entering a not guilty plea in Monday's, July 31st, 2006, hearing.
Carruthers entered a not guilty plea to racketeering and fraud charges.
Other Bet On Sports executives that entered a not guilty plea includes Lori Kaplan Multz and Neil Kaplan, the sister and brother of Gary Kaplan, founder of Bet On Sports.
The U.S government charges the executives of Bet On Sports officials of illegally taking bets from U.S through phones and online gambling site without paying taxes.
BetOnSports PLC did not send legal representatives on their behalf.
According to U.S. Attorney Catherine Hanaway, she is not surprised with the non appearance of Bet On Sports.
Kaplan, Bet On Sports founder, remained at large after his indictment.
Except for Carruther, all those that were present at the arraignment are free on bond. Carruthers, who was sacked by Bet On Sports last week, will stay in jail until his lawyers submit another proposal for the terms of his release.
According to prosecutors, Carruthers is a flight risk and they are asking that bond should not be accepted.
The U.S Department of Justice seeks the forfeiture of more than four billion dollars, computers and cars from the defendants.
